CBD in veterinary medicine

Innovative, environmentally sustainable and personal – that’s what Herosan healthcare GmbH is known for among veterinarians with its TAMACAN and entoVITAL brands. Herosan has the most advanced cannabis production of its kind in Europe, regularly gives insight on the topic of CBD in animals, and is heavily involved in the research and development of safe and high quality CBD products.

“Our veterinary and human products are as unique as the needs of people and animals. From their origin to their manufacture to their benefits. We combine professional know-how and science,” explains Conny Pint, CEO.

A safe product in a maze of suppliers

Safe CBD products for humans and animals should not be underestimated – here, analyses of the cannabinoids are essential, especially the THC content must comply with legal regulations. Other important analyses, such as testing for heavy metals, pesticides and herbicides by accredited laboratories, should not be neglected – just like the extraction method. This is also the reason why Herosan cultivates their plants organically in the 20 hectare glasshouse and processes them into CBD products in their in-house production using CO2 extraction. Here we do not have to fear pollution from external influences or from pre-damaged soils, as hemp is a soil-cleansing plant. What’s more, there are no classic by-products as in the open field, and pest cultures are very well under control and can be reacted to quickly.

“The careful use of resources already starts in the cultivation of our hemp plants. We use the surplus energy of domestic companies for glasshouse heating and can reprocess our plant soil and water supply several times.”

Transparency has clear advantages

Herosan’s production can of course be visited by its partners. It is significant to know what effort is made for assured quality, so that you can feel safe towards your animal patients when using TAMACAN in your practice.

Research and know-how

TAMACAN is thoroughly tested. Conny Pint explains: “We already completed several scientific studies with TAMACAN. Studies on the effect and doping relevance in horses are currently underway at Freie Universität Berlin. With the Wolf Science Center in Austria, the next long-term study is about to begin. A study on CBD and cats is currently underway at the Institute of Animal Nutrition and Functional Plant Substances at the University of Veterinary Medicine, Vienna.”

Professionals as partners?

Cannabidiol can cause interactions with other medications, it is absolutely necessary to seek clarification from a veterinarian when accompanying treatment. Above all, veterinarians know the medical history of their patients. There are countless CBD products offered on the internet. Origin, effect and safety are often questionable. Here we aim to remain supportive in order to guarantee quality as well as safety.

Why is Herosan the first point of contact for veterinarians?

Herosan also offers its partners the opportunity to order the recommended variety of products directly and have them delivered to their homes through the non-binding and free partner program with sustainable remuneration for patient owners.

Advice from veterinarians should also bear fruit in the long term and enable a recommendation of a product not only during a direct visit to the practice. Animal owners can thus be on the safe side and reorder high-quality products via their veterinarians. “In addition, our partners have the opportunity to view studies and webinars,” Pint said. “A wide range of promotional materials to support sales are also provided free of charge.”

The future of CBD in veterinary medicine

Cannabidiol in animals was categorized as a zootechnical additive in the feed sector in 2019, and approval is required here, on which Herosan is currently working very intensively as the first company in Europe. The whole spectrum of the hemp plant is to be addressed. Studies have already shown that pure substances do not bring the same positive desired effect as whole extracts.

CBD is here to stay as it acts like non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, similar to cortisone, but does not have the known side effects of it. This is a positive opportunity in veterinary medicine to offer alternatives. The future of the hemp plant is promising, through further studies the realization of the possibilities of cannabis is growing.

The hemp plant deserves a new classification assessment. In it’s many uses, be it as a fiber for clothing and building materials, and of course as a medicinal plant. The future holds great promise.
